The Maggiolata is the traditional celebration of spring with a parade of floats made up of thousands of flowers and musical groups through the streets of the historic centre.
The event consists of a challenge between the four districts of the town in preparing the most beautiful float. The floats parade on the last two Sundays of May (from which the event takes its name): on the second the jury announces the winning district, to which the coveted Golden Grifo goes. Everything is preceded by the stripping of the floats, whose flowers are thrown between each other among the neighborhoods, giving life to a singular “battle of flowers”. The four participating districts are: Porta Murata, Porta San Giovanni, Porta San Giusto, Via dell’Amore.
